Every gas furnace uses a series of burners to ignite fuel and turn it into warmth.  Conventional furnaces turn the gas flame on and off as your furnace cycles, creating warm air that then circulates through your home.  The problem with this method is, the furnace ends up in an inefficient cycle of making the home too warm, letting it cool, then heating it up again.

The SLP98V, on the other hand, uses a special gas valve that can adjust the flow of fuel from 35% to 100%, in increments of 1%. That means it can operate at 65 different levels of heat output, to exactly match your comfort and energy savings.

Rather than keep your home in a heat-cool-heat-cool cycle, the SLP98V will bring your home to the temperature you desire, and keep it there using little bursts of heat throughout the day.  In fact, when paired with an iComfort® thermostat like the iComfort Wi-Fi®, the SLP98V can keep your home within half a degree or less of the temperature you set.

More than heat

The SLP98V’s ability to adapt to your exact comfort needs isn’t limited to its heating capabilities.  The way it moves air around also helps create and preserve your ideal environment.

The SLP98V uses a variable-speed blower, which allows it to adjust airflow up and down like a dimmer switch, moving air slowly and efficiently during normal operation, with the ability to ramp up airflow when demand increases.  There are many benefits to this.

Dual-fuel operation

For even greater energy savings, the SLP98V can be installed with an electric heat pump to create a dual-fuel system.  In this configuration, your furnace acts like a blower during hot weather, circulating the cool air created by your heat pump. As the weather gets cooler, the heat pump supplies heat to the home by drawing it in from the outside air.

When the weather gets too cold for the heat pump to operate efficiently, the furnace takes over heating duties with its gas burners.

A dual-fuel system is able to switch back and forth between gas heat and electric heat, based on energy rates in your area. So no matter what the weather is doing, you’re always keeping warm in the most efficient way possible.
